Wekh Lahore Photography Exhibition at Alhamra Arts Council, The Mall Road Start from Friday 17th January 2014

LAHORE “Wekh Lahore”, a unique collection of photographs depicting the cultural history of the provincial metropolis and its people, was inaugurated by Kamran Lashari, Managing Director Wall City of Lahore Authority, at Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall, here on Friday.

The exhibition showcases splendid photographic work of brilliant photographers and brings the mesmerizing beauty of Lahore’s centuries’ old treasure of cultural richness to the general public.

The event, organized by the Walled City Of Lahore Authority in collaboration with the Alhamra Arts Council and Lahore Photography Club , is in fact the opening ceremony of a three-day long (17th to 19th January) final proceedings of “Wekh Lahore” Photography Contest. The names of the top three slots prize winners, and runner ups will be announced on January 19 (tomorrow), the 3rd & the final day of the exhibition.


At least 476 road accidents were reported in Rescue 1122’s Provincial Monitoring Cell from all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours. Six people were killed and 361 critically injured in the accidents. The injured were shifted to hospitals. However, some 198 victims sustaining minor injuries were provided with first aid on the spot. —Correspondent


Old city in new photos Lahore Photography Club and the Lahore Arts

LAHORE: A blockbuster photography exhibition by the Walled City of Lahore Authority in collaboration with the Lahore Photography Club and the Lahore Arts Council opened at Alhamra Art Gallery, The Mall, on Friday.

The exhibition titled ‘Wekh Lahore’ is a rich panorama of what the Walled City is all about — the people living there, the food, the artisans, the musicians, the buildings and the life at large within the old city gates. Amateur photographers submitted their entries for the exhibition.

The authority received 400 or so entries for the exhibition, out of which 94 were selected for display. The jury consisted of five artistes: Ibrar Cheema, Umair Ghani, Sajjad Kausar, Atif Saeed and Zulfiqar Ali Zulfi.

Alhamra was quite a happening place on Friday evening as a fairly good number of art lovers thronged the exhibition to see the Walled City from different dimensions. A prize distribution ceremony would be held on the concluding day of the exhibition — January 19.

The ceremony will also offer traditional music, a bit of theatre and an added spice of laughter through comedians.

The first prize for photograph competition is Rs100,000, second Rs75,000 and third Rs50,000. The first 10 runner-ups will get gift hampers, Taniya Qureshi from the Walled City Authority told Dawn.

Lahore Walled City Authority Director General Kamran Lashari who inaugurated the exhibition told reporters the exhibition aimed at promoting Lahore’s heritage and culture. Lashari said the participants had come up with some fabulous works in the exhibition.
