Seasons of Lahore Painting Show by Shahid Jalal

Eighteen years ago, a dream shared by a group of concerned citizens materialized into the reality of The Citizens Foundation(TCF), spearheading a movement to revolutionize the prevalent educational scenario in the urban and rural slums of Pakistan. As of 2014, TCF has established 1000 purpose built school units in 100 locations nationwide, with an enrolment of 145,000 students, creating employment of 7,700 women teachers.

The Citizens Foundation cause is very close to my heart and the best way to help was to have an auction of the largest collection of my work”, says Shahid Jalal who has donated sixty five paintings to raise funds for TCF Schools through an on-line Auction.
The vista-like quality of his canvases portray nature in all its glory at varying times and in varying light.

The exhibition is no doubt a treat to watch as the entry to art gallery opens for one the world of blooming spring roses, marigolds and other flowers fluttering and dancing around. It’s an exhibition-cum-auction both on the site and through website.

To Mr Jalal, The Citizens Foundation is very close to his heart and the best way to contribute to its cause was the auction of the largest collection of his works.

The artist has chosen the paintings from two series, the Nisar Road Series and the Lahore Garden Series. The first is based on the area in which the artist has lived and included paintings of interiors of his house, garden and those of houses and trees nearby. The second series of paintings have been painted in the Lawrence Gardens and the Racecourse Park. Funds generated from the auction of 65 paintings would go to the schools of the foundation.

The sale of the paintings is being done through a silent auction on The Citizens Foundation’s website. The same paintings being exhibited at the Ejaz Gallery in Lahore would be put on display at the Frere Hall Karachi. Visitors to the galleries will be able to record their bids at the venues with the help of foundation’s staff. Website visitors can record their bids directly.

The website for the silent auction has been launched on Friday at the Ejaz Art Gallery. Bids will be recorded directly on the website at http://stcf.tfc.org.pk by the bidders who will provide their contact numbers and address in the space provided in the website under each painting.

Additional bids on top of the bids already recorded for any painting will need to be Rs25,000 above the bid already made. Bidding will close at the end of the exhibition of these paintings at Frere Hall Karachi on the final day.
