Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Culture and Information Mian Iftikhar Hussain opened the exhibition at the Imam Khamenei Hall of the centre where about 70 paintings by students were put on display.
The paintings depicting local culture, customs and way of life attracted visitors including students and artists. The aim of the exhibition is to keep youngsters away from unhealthy activities and engage them in positive things.
“Adopting painting as a profession will not only help young people earn their livelihood honourably but will
also herald reforms in the society through art and culture,” said Muhammad Javed Populzai, who heads the painting section at the Khana-e-Farhang.
Populzai, an Afghan national who runs a calligraphy centre — Al-Qalam Fine Art and Calligraphy Institution — at the Board Bazaar on the Jamrud Road, said all the paintings were made by students and the show would enhance their interest in the fine arts.
Earlier, addressing the inaugural ceremony, Mian Iftikhar said that other nations learnt fine arts from the Muslims but unfortunately some elements for their vested interests defamed the art and culture by terming it un-Islamic. He said art was the best way to depict culture and social activities, which led a society to reformation.
Lauding the young students for their work, the minister said the peace and culture could better be promoted through paintings and other genres of fine art.

Oil paints are a great medium of art which has produced some of the greatest artists all over. If one is willing to buy oil paintings, it becomes essential to know at least the biggest artists of all time and their works in order to differentiate between a great painting and cheap paintings.
