Mural Paintings by Volunteer Art Students
The Capital Development Authority (CDA) on Friday launched an initiative to beautify the road bridges of Islamabad to honour the services and sacrifices of national heroes for nation building by dedicating these to their names.
The first ever bridge beautified in this regard is Shaheed-e-Millat (China Chowk) underpass F-6/1 that has been adorned by mural paintings by a dozen volunteer students of National College of Arts Rawalpindi.
The project was sponsored by the Action Aid, a civil society organization in collaboration with the CDA.
The first ever bridge decorated has been dedicated to the women of Pakistan those comprise more than fifty percent of country’s population and contributing a lot in national empowerment.
Talking to media, Member Administration CDA Munir Ahmed Chaudhry said the initiative is meant to beautify the structures as well as recognize the services of our heroes including women, saints, leaders of Pakistan Movement, youth, and sportsmen.
He said despite being eye-catching, the project would incur no money form the CDA’s kitty rather it has been sponsored by a civil society organization.
Member Environment Kazim Niaz said lauded the initiative and said the city can be beautified through coordinated efforts of the CDA as well as the residents of Islamabad as teamwork.
He said the environment directorate would also develop attractive flowers beds down to the painting as well as throughout the underpass.
He said the students have put in their huge efforts to paint the wall and it is the responsibility of the citizens to protect it from vandalism to make its beauty durable.
Policy Manager Action Aid Uzma Tahir said through this pictographic representation of women’s struggle to their basic rights and achievements, we would like to highlight that the women across the globe and especially in Pakistan carry invisible extra burdens of being women.
She said the purpose of the event is to highlight and create awareness among the general public about the issues pertaining to the country regarding women’s rights, early girls child marriage and women education through wide media coverage.
Director NCA Nadeem Omer said that the event was organized under the NCA’s outreach program where students are encouraged to play their part in the betterment of Pakistani society.
“The NCA believes that artist should step out their studios and galleries to work and exhibit in public spaces and the civil society should work in collaboration with artists and designers to make the city a beautiful place.”
