Group Painting Exhibition by Maryam Rasul and Humaira Malik

Maryam Rasul Art-001In connection with National Women Day, Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) organised a group painting exhibition based on landscape to highlight the contribution of women in national progress here on Tuesday.The portraits were painted by famous artists of the region Maryam Rasul and Humaira Malik. The exhibition was inaugurated by PML-N Senator Najma Hameed and MNA Tahira Aurangzeb along with Naheed Manzoor and Waqar Ahmed, Resident Director RAC.Najma Hameed addressing after the inaugural ceremony said that Pakistani women were very talented and gender discrimination has been abolished. She said that work of Maryam Rasul and Humaira Malik was excellent and speaks its self. Tahira Aurangzeb, MNA, said that the art of landscape painting was very difficult but both the artist produced reality in their work. She added that RAC always provided her opportunity to see quality work. Former RAC RD Naheed Manzoor said that Council was provided an equal opportunity institution for men and women and did not believe in gender discrimination. She said that it was providing plate form to young talent of the region. Senator Dr Saeeda Iqbal, Agha Nasir, Mansoor Rahi, Syed Abbas Shah, Naheeda Raza and other artists participated and applauded the exhibition.Maryam Rasul daughter of landscape maestro Ghulam Rasul and her contemporary artist Humaira Malik brought Islamabad outskirts into canvas. A total of 40 paintings of different size were put on display. The colours of spring and autumn dominate and lush green trees provided soothing to the visitors. Both the artists have same taste and selection. Maryam Rasul did her masters in fine arts from Punjab University and has expertise in still life, figure composition and landscape. She has a number of exhibitions nationally and internationally to her credit especially in India and UK and her collection is also available in Sweden, Japan, Malaysia, Norway and Washington DC. Humaira Malik has also done masters in fine arts and exhibited her work throughout Pakistan. Humaira also loves to paint landscape and likes beauty of nature which depicts in her collection. The exhibition would remain open for general public till 17 February 2013, informed RAC spokesman.
