Ghalib’s 144th death anniversary
The 144th death anniversary of classical Urdu and Persian poet Mirza Asadullah Baig Khan Ghalib will be observed today in the capital.
Ghalib was born on December 27, 1796, in the city of Akbarabad (present day Agra). He is considered as an all-time great classical Urdu and Persian poet.
He wrote several ghazals during his life, which have been interpreted and sung in many different ways by various people.
Mirza Ghalib is considered, in South Asia, as one of the most popular and influential poets of the Urdu Language.
It is widely believed that Mirza Ghalib led a drastic revolution in Urdu poetry with his words.
Ghalib started composing poetry at the tender age of 11. His first language was Urdu, but Persian and Turkish were also spoken at his home. He received his education in Persian and Arabic at a young age. Mirza Ghalib died on 15 February, 1869.
