Pakistani artist Jimmy Engineer Paintings Exhibition Begins in Colombo
Noted Pakistani artist Jimmy Engineer is currently paying another goodwill visit to Sri Lanka to promote soft, moderate, progressive image of the country through his art.
According to a message received here from Sri Lanka, an exhibition of selected paintings of Jimmy Engineer is being held at Lionel Wendt Memorial Art Centre in Colombo from Thursday. On display in the solo exhibition, which is scheduled to continue for a week, are 50 selected artwork of the Karachi-based artist who has donated prints of these paintings to the Centre as a gesture of goodwill. Lionel Wendt Memorial Art Centre, which is hub of art and culture related activities in Sri Lankan capital, has been celebrating 60 years of its existence.
Former Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe will be the chief guest at the inauguration of Jimmy Engineer. Mr Ranil Wickremasinghe has, so far, twice served as the Prime Minister of his country from May 1993 to August 1994 and December 2001 to April 2004.
Jimmy Engineer visited Sri Lanka in 2004 and organised about half a dozen programmes in different parts of the island country for physically handicapped, mentally-retarded, deaf and dumb children.
Talking to the media people in the Sri Lankan capital, Jimmy Engineer said that he regards himself as an unofficial goodwill ambassador of Pakistan and tries to promote soft, moderate positive and progressive image of the motherland and its people.
UET VC addresses new faces: University of Engineering and Technology, Vice Chancellor Lt. Gen. (R) Muhammad Akram Khan on Thursday addressed the new admissions.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC briefed the students about UET, saying that the university was the oldest engineering institution of Pakistan. “It ranks No.1 in the public sector universities and 61st in Asian Ranking while at 261 among the top Technical Universities of the World.”
He said that at present the university was spending about Rs15,000 per student per month and directed students do avail scholarships.
He advised that the secret of success in life comes from continuous hard work.
About 1,500 students along with senior faculty members were present on the occasion.
