Virtual ‘Hall of Fame’ to honour icons

A nationwide ‘virtual Hall of Fame’ will be launched soon by Hall of Fame Foundation to celebrate Pakistani icons.

Masood Ali Khan, founder chairman of the foundation, told Dawn on Sunday that he had floated the idea to honour and celebrate the legendary personalities of Pakistan from different domains.

He said after launching the virtual Hall of Fame, the second step would be the launch of a coffee table book and after some eight months a museum would be established to highlight work of these icons.

Mr Khan said the foundation had conducted research on some 500 personalities in this connection. For establishing the museum, he said some appropriate building would be identified in due course of time.

To a question, he said transparency was the major concern for the foundation and for this a great effort had been made to ensure that those included in the Hall of Fame should have made such achievements which were recognised both nationally and internationally. Mr Khan who is also in the Hall of Fame Board of Governors hoped the unique venture would provide a platform to recognise Pakistani icons on national and international levels.

For the purpose, an honorary advisory board comprising 16 members having impeccable credentials, reputation and standing has been formed to approve names in nine categories. The selection of nominees is based on a three-tier system in order to make it more transparent. First, core committee will propose nominees to an honorary executive steering committee which will scrutinise them and finally an advisory board will induct them as heroes, icons or legends.

As many as 13 leading figures from fine arts held a meeting at Lahore Gymkhana last Saturday to give their input with regard to the nominees for the fine arts category.

Those who participated in the meeting are Professor Saeed Akhtar, Nayyer Ali Dada, Quddus Mirza, Rashid Rana, Salima Hashmi, Javed Iqbal, Sajida Vandal, Ms Naeem Akhter Sayed, Amna Pataudi, Bashir Ahmed, Risham, Ayesha Shahnawaz and Dr Kanwal Khalid.
