Paintings on landscape, cityscape on show at Rawalpindi Arts Council

The Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) continues its struggle for the promotion of art and culture and provides a platform to the young talent of the region.

In this regard, the council held an exhibition of paintings by an Islamabad-based artist, Sabeeha Nasir, on Wednesday. The exhibition featured landscapes and cityscapes in Sabeeha’s 92 art pieces.

PML-N MNA Malik Abrar Ahmed, Naheed Manzoor and RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed inaugurated the exhibition.

Indonesian Embassy Counselor Social and Cultural Affairs Kusdiana and a large number of art lovers from the twin cities attended the event.

Sabeeha is a retired associate professor and a realist painter, but her paintings of landscapes or cityscapes are more than an imitation of what is seen. She has full command over use of oil, water, poster colours and pencil.

Speaking after opening the exhibition, Abrar Ahmed said that Sabeeha has a magical skill to capture the essence of the vignette that she replicates on canvas. Beyond realism, she understands her subject matter well, the MNA said, adding that the artist renders such images with amazing dexterity. “Her paintings take their inspiration from a direct observation of nature,” he said. Kusdiana said that Sabeeha uses a rich palette that brings a pictorial richness to her canvas.

“She is a master of capturing seasons and times of day. In her landscapes, one can truly feel the breeze and smell the grass,” he said.

Naheed Mnazoor said that RAC had always encouraged new talent to exhibit their art. Sabeeha has several group shows to her credit but this is first ever solo exhibition. The exhibition will continue until June 2.

  1. Woah! I’m really digging the template/theme of this site. It’s simple, yet effective. A lot of times it’s difficult to get that “perfect balance” between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say you’ve done a awesome job with this. Additionally, the blog loads extremely quick for me on Internet explorer. Superb Blog!
