Momart Art Gallery Stages a Comeback

Group Show at Momart Art GalleryMomart Gallery, which was first established in 1994 by Shammi Ahmed, has made a comeback in the art circle with its re-launch and art exhibition at its new location in Clifton.

The colourful event was graced by IBA Director Dr Ishrat Husain, who was the guest of honour, and senior art critics Marjorie Husain and Mohsin Jaffri besides artists and art lovers.

Opened with multimedia contemporary artworks including ceramics and sculpture as well as wall-based art, the gallery is exhibiting the work of 67 artists, including some legendary artists such as Anjum Ayaz, Jamil Naqsh, Najmi Sura and Cassim Mapara, from across the country.

Encouraging young emerging artists as well as established artists to showcase their work, the show is themed around watercolours and drawings, landscape paintings, calligraphy and figurative work.

Speaking at the relaunch, Ms Ahmed said: “It gives us immense pleasure to announce the relaunch of Momart Art Gallery at a new location. The humble journey that started 20 years ago with art connoisseurs has given Momart a reputation and standing amongst leading art galleries, not only locally but internationally as well. This re-launch would not have been possible without our talented artists, valued patrons and critics equally. Their relentless support and trust has enabled us to showcase innumerable exhibitions and offer a distinct platform for appreciation of art in a culturally rich society.” Sixty seven artists participated in the relaunch exhibition of Momart Gallery emphasizing the huge pool of art talent available in the country and presented their ideas through fascinating use of the colours, ceramics and other media of art. The Momart re-launch exhibition will continue till August from 11am to 7pm.
