“Art is when you hear a knocking from your soul — and you answer. “Terri Guillemets. So I did answer to mine. ” Mashq” is a Divine recall and my response, as I drew myself closer to the Ultimate Creator. Something in my soul–the concentration, endurance and dedication–required to do the activity, the “Mashq”, which served to cultivate inner tranquility and deepened the spirituality inside me.
In this work, I expressed my intellectual longing for creative ideas through my love for traditional Islamic khat and my own contemporary painting style. It explores the harmony between the colours, fluid lines, dots, textures, patterns, letters and words together to inspire a meaning worth imagining. The striking bold colours and subtle use of contrast accentuates the brush strokes to encapsulate all that is good about the contemporary Islamic Calligraphy. As contemporary styles and techniques continue to develop, I am breathing into a rich and ever-evolving art.
