Kashmiri art festival starts at Rawalpindi
The Kashmiri Art Festival opened at the Rawalpindi Arts Council here on Monday.
The AJK minister for tourism inaugurated the festival. The work of ‘papier mache’, Kashmiri embroidery, Kashmiri shawls, frames and paintings of different artists were displayed at the festival. Art of ‘papier mache’ was transferred from Iran to Kashmir six hundred years ago and it flourished with full enthusiasm by the Kashmiri artisans. In ‘papier mache’ work, paper is moulded to give different shapes and decorated with various colours.
Zulfiqar Ali Ghazi presented his work of ‘papier mache’ in the festival. Kashmiri shawls, embroidery work, frames and painting of different painters were highly appreciated by the art lovers.
Speaking on the occasion, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Minister for Tourism Abdul Salam Butt said that Kashmiri art is the recognition of Kashmir as well as Pakistan worldwide. He further said although ‘papier mache’ is six hundred years old art, but the artisans from Kashmir have survived this art.
Embassy of Japan Counsellor Toshikazu Isomura also visited the festival. He showed great interest and praised Kashmiri art. He said that Pakistanis are peaceful, talented, true to their work and artisans of worldwide fame. The festival was also visited by a large number of people from Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
