Sameera’s first solo exhibition opens
Sameera Khalid, aged 22, showcased her paintings at the Rawalpindi Arts Council (RAC) on Tuesday. Sameera is a student and has done diploma in fashion and designing from Iqra University, but her interest developed in textile designing and then in abstract paintings. She has used a visual language of form, colour and line to create a composition, which may exist with a degree of independence from visual references.
While talking to ‘The News’ Sameera who is also the only daughter of Dr Khalid, said she has used feminine theme with butterflies, roses, peaches and pink shades and lot of bright colours so that the onlooker can see the colours of spring and flowers and feel enriched and full of life.
Although she’s new in the field but she did a diploma course in fine arts from Rawalpindi Arts Council and this immense passion drove her ambition to become a full time artist and her parents encouraged her.
Sameera has not only experimented with different techniques of oil paints but also used cut and paste, ribbons and sequins in her 66 paintings that were showcased in the exhibition. She has done calligraphy in six of her paintings in which she used different materials.
Renowned calligraphist Azeem Iqbal appreciated her work saying that she has made her composition skilfully by distorting the image perceived in the mind. She has made good use of the wave of thoughts and tactfully handled it by her brush and skilfully made a combination of spring and autumn colours.
Ex-director Rawalpindi Arts Council Naheed Mazoor said Sameera is a fresh addition to the art and she would definitely make her mark in the field of abstract art.
Senator Najma Hameed who was the chief guest on the occasion said that we don’t have a dearth of talent in the country and Rawalpindi Arts Council is providing a diverse platform to the upcoming artists. She said that our younger generation should get involved in these positive activities and present the soft image of Pakistan.
The chief guest urged Sameera to continue her work through hard work and dedication. The exhibition will continue till December 24, 2011. (the news)
