Daachi Arts and Crafts Exhibition

The Arts and Crafts Exhibition 2014 organised by the Daachi Foundation kicked off at Heritage Museum, Tollinton Market, on Saturday.
Handicrafts, artefacts, textiles, jewellery, pottery, furniture, paintings, books and food items have been displayed at around 80 stalls.
Meanwhile, special collection of books about Allama Iqbal will be on the show in connection with Iqbal Day today (Sunday).
Talking to Daily Times, Daachi Foundation’s Ayesha Noorani said that the event was aimed at promoting cultural heritage and ideology of Pakistan against the backdrop of Iqbal Day. She said that the foundation held a grand mela in 2011 and since then, it has regularly been holding Arts and Crafts Exhibitions annually. Moreover, she said, the foundation had conducted a craftsmen’s workshop and a survey trip to Uzbekistan.
Ayesha said that the foundation also plans to build a dedicated artisan village on its land on Raiwind Road. The village will contain crafts bazaar, food court, museum, art gallery, health centre and many more things.
About reason behind establishing the proposed village, she said that we feel that the best way to realise our objective was to have a dedicated centre, which would be able to provide all resources and infrastructure to art lovers and researchers at a single platform.
