Pakistan Cultural Week 2012-2013

Federal Ministry of National Heritage and Integration and Lok Virsa (National Institute of Folk and Traditional Heritage) are all set to hold Pakistan Cultural Week starting today (Tuesday).

The idea of the event has been conceived by the Federal Minister for National Heritage and Integration Samina Khalid Ghurki which will feature colourful events highlighting ages old cultures and traditions that exist in different parts of the country.

Explaining the concept of the event to media, Lok Virsa Executive Director Khalid Javaid said that Pakistan Week aims to create unity and harmony among the nation through a cultural perspective.

He informed that the event is being held under the aegis of Federal Ministry of National Heritage and Integration in collaboration with Lok Virsa at Garden Avenue, Shakarparian.

“The country at present needs to be united and re-introduced as a nation rich in heritage, blessed with harmony, accommodating different cultures, creeds and colours. It would also showcase to the outer world the true, peaceful and harmonious face of Pakistan,” Khalid Javaid maintained.

The major focus of the seven-day event is on Potohar region through depiction of its culture and traditions. Representative pavilions of all federating units including Punjab, Sindh, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir by way of presenting their arts, crafts, indigenous folk heritage and folk music would also enhance the beauty and landscape of the federal capital for a week.

Other features will include artisans-at-work exhibition with demonstration of skills by master artisans and craftspeople from all over the country including remotest and far-flung regions. Song and dance ensembles, folkloric performances, traditional cuisine, an exotic craft bazaar and traditional floats representing all federating units will add to the colour of the event.

The organisers will also install entrance gates on highways and busy roads besides decorating different chowks and roundabouts on various themes. Some other activities would be stage plays, on-the-spot activities for family and children and prestigious opening and closing ceremonies.

The Pakistan Week will formally open on January 1 and will continue at Lok Virsa Complex, Shakarparian, till January 7.
