Artist Statement

My Artistic practice is based fundam entally on a few components, which namely are the strands of hair I use to create the weave-like patterns in my work. Secondly, on a personal front, my work is a huge result of the heritage of my childhood, personal experiences and obstacles that I faced as early Artist and as a student alike. I first started making grids on Wasli (handmade sheet( as a mere distraction from what I was undergoing at the time.
This soon became a fixation and therapy for me, I then began creating and sketching pattems on the grids by punching holes in the grids by a handmade tool. I began weaving strands of hair into the grid as I had learnt to weave as a child and it was a skill taught to all children native to my village background. I kept persistently creating more of my work and to my surprise what at the time was an escape for me from my reality, soon became widely appreciated by my teachers and friends. The thought of using my hair as a tool to express myself publically never crossed my mind; however, it takes me closer to a message I would want to share or a feeling I would want to express.
My work in totality is a depiction of the truth within me, it is resilient, contemporary and the paths and hardships all endured by me in the course of my life have all been molded and refined to manifest the intricacy of my work.
