Viewing the outstanding artwork of the renowned artist Chitra Pritim, art that is currently on display at the Artscene Gallery, one recalls the artist’s years of dedication, honoured by awards and widely appreciated. Chitra’s story begins in Sanjanpur, Rahimiyar Khan where he was born in 1966. His family had been jewelers for generations, and it was expected that Chitra would follow in the family footsteps. From his father he learned the art of jewelry making and in the opinion of the distinguished miniaturist Ustad Bashir Ahmed, the apprenticeship of jewelery making is very similar to that of the art of miniature painting. Chitra studied diligently but he was obsessed with the desire to spend his life as an artist. The countryside around his home was inspirational, and the time came when he expressed his love of nature through sought after-landscape paintings. However, his love of art was sorely tested as he moved to Karachi and struggled with his muse.
